Med utgangspunkt i sin egen oppvekst i Chillicothe, Appalachia skriver Spahr i dette diktet om klasse,
I am wondering what calling myself working class covers over. / I assume people who identified as other races lived there also but I don’t know the names of those races because at the time I only saw black and white. / I had grown up by defining class as being about the sort of housing one had in relation to one’s neighbors. / I meant to tell a story of privilege. / I remember loud machines.
Juliana Spahr har gitt ut en rekke bøker, senest The Transformation. Sammen med Jena Osman redigerer hun Chain. Samlaget ga i høst ut Alle med lungar kopla saman.
