Chain Links 2: Chain Links Borders

BORDERS is the second volume in a series called Chain Links, a spinoff project of the journal Chain, edited by Jena Osman and Juliana Spahr. The goal of this new series is to produce books that might change people’s minds, might agitate for (thought) reform, might shift perspectives. This project also continues Chain’s desire to provide space for work that slips through genre cracks and falls outside of disciplinary boundaries.

«Chain Links is a book series, modelled around the same idea of interdisciplinary conversation as the magazine. Our call is not for work this time but for editors. We want editors who can bring together three or so people whose work is in different media together around a topic. We want work that recognizes that we, all of us on this small earth, are alive in a time of crisis. It is our hope that each of these books will address a particular topic with an interdisciplinary focus. «Det har vært gjort et aktivt arbeid med introduksjoner av amerikansk samtidspoesi i Sverige, Danmark og Norge de siste ti åra, særlig gjennom tidsskriftene Nypoesi, OEI og Legenda. Med denne boka svarer vi med oversettelser den andre veien. Alle de tre forfatterne har latt seg påvirke av billedkunst og konseptuelle arbeidsmåter, men med ganske andre resultater enn beslektede amerikanske prosjekter. Et fellestrekk i tekstene er at de myldrer av folk og ulike stemmer; de springer ut av det offentlige rommet, det fokuseres på møtesteder og sosial omgang. Chain har som uttalt siktemål å gi et aldri så lite bidrag til å styrke den demokratiske kulturen i USA, og her gjør de felles sak med Das Beckwerk. Men for oss har det vært vel så viktig å styre unna all skandinavisk eksotisme, og heller koble disse skandinaviske forfatterne på en litterær samtale som allerede eksisterer — å krysse grensene med noe som angår de amerikanske leserne direkte.» – Audun Lindholm, Klassekampen, 08.07.08
