The PIP (Project for Innovative Poetry) Anthology of World Poetry of the 20th Century: Volume 4
In this fourth volume of the ongoing PIP (Project for Innovative Poetry) series of international anthologies, Messerli continues to explore the work of major 20th and 21st century figures of poetry. Once again, author biographies are accompanied by complete listings of each poet's work in his or her original language, a listing of all known translations, and an ample selection of poetry in translation. Additionally, Messerli has included in this volume a “News and Corrections” section, as well as the ongoing list of poets included in all volumes to date.
The figures in volume 4 include Nobel Prize winning poets such as Vicente Alexiandre (Spain), Octavio Paz (Mexico) and Nelly Sachs (Germany), as well as major international writers Luis Cernuda (Spain), Oliverio Girondo (Argentina), Miguel Hernández (Spain), Gyula Illyes (Hungary), Kusano Shinpei (Japan), Else Lasker-Schüler (Germany), Mina Loy (England), Vítezlav Nezval (Czech Republic), Nishiwaki Janzaburo (Japan), Vasko Popa (Serbia and Montenegro), Yannis Ritsos (Greece), Jules Supervielle (France), Tada Chimako (Japan), Jorge Teillier (Chile), Susana Thénon (Argentina), and Orhan Veli (Turkey).
Like the volumes before it, this anthology hopefully reveals the exciting poetic innovations of poets from several countries and helps to contextualize the great literary experiments of the 20th century.
