Hellebou Vol. 1

Hellebu is a traditional log cabin, located in the outskirts of Bolkesjö, Telemark. When we made our first visit in 2009, the cabin was currently out of use, merely functioning as a storage space. With a desire to revive and reuse the cabin, we turned it into an artist residence. We organised the interiors, along with a belonging play- house and woodshed, and made room for a music studio, living areas and work- stations.

The cabin is continuously being maintained, last by coating the exterior walls with tar. Hellebu is experiencing an ongoing stream of visitors; young artists who are invited for a stay. Our guests are encouraged to bring along a companion, and explore the surrounding fishing lakes, forest and mountain trails. During their residency, each artist create a work which holds some relation to the site. The works result in a yearly publication entitled Hellebou, and some are still standing in Hellebu's own sculpture park. Hellebou presents fine art in various forms; drawings, photography, physical objects, text - and documented performances, videos, installations and sculptures. Each issue comes with a sound edition, bordering between noise, metal, readings, lo-fi folk, country and electronica.
