Diplomacy

Titled after Henry Kissinger’s infamous book, Diplomacy is a graphic, conflict-fueled drama with moments of heartbreak and dark humor. Roy’s wife, Thu Van, relives the "shock and awe" of her childhood in Vietnam, as new armed conflicts explode in the Middle East where their daughter serves as a diplomat. Roy’s best friend Sinclair is an ambitious, possibly unprincipled, newsman. His interest in Thu Van’s public self-immolation makes him decidedly suspect. With Jihadist suicide bombers sacrificing themselves daily, what purpose is there now to a single sacrifice in the name of peace? Once believing his Vietnam War desertion was an honorable reaction to a dishonorable war, Roy now believes he was misguided. His grief, fury, fear, and despair keep this play on its razor’s edge.

"It’s a rare thing—the well-argued blast of political outrage." — Globe and Mail
